R&D 6: "SBA9801" alfalfa

"SBA9801" alfalfa YR Natsu-Hotaru, a new radishDairy and livestock farmers admire alfalfa, which is often called "the queen of forages." Although Snow Brand Seed has developed many varieties of plants, this is our first proprietary variety of alfalfa.

"SBA9801" was initially selected on the breeding nursery in Tokachi, Hokkaido, where the cold winter is harsh and the soil often freezes. Having demonstrated its superior capability as part of an experimental cultivation in the similarly cold Konsen District, "SBA9801" was authorized as a Hokkaido Excellence Variety this spring, 2005. It is resistant against winter injury and pepper spot, excels in persistence and ensures abundant yielding ability.
