We released a new Japanese radish variety, "YR Natsu-Hotaru", which is appropriate for seeding and growing between the two principal Japanese radish-seeding seasons in spring and summer. As this variety has a strong resistance to fusarium wilt, growers can cultivate without disinfecting soil in cold uplands where there is a risk of disease during hot-temperature periods and in farm fields once infected by the disease due to continuous cropping.
This variety grows well with a good balance between the leaves and the root among the Japanese radish varieties that are cropped during high-temperature periods. The root quality is excellent, and the green neck looks good, thereby ensuring high marketability.
- YR: suggests a non-infectious characteristic or having a strong resistance to fusarium wilt.
- Fusarium wilt: A soil-infectious disease that often breaks out due to continuous cropping. The outbreak is mostly seen in the post-growth stage for varieties seeded in spring and in the early growth stage for those seeded in summer.
