R&D 2: Introduction of new breeds
High-yield and early-growing pumpkins

"Ohguri", a new variety of pumpkinManufacturers generally prefer easy-to-produce and high-yield pumpkins that produce much fruit. In contrast, consumers demand high-quality pumpkins with a powdery sweet taste.

The vines of the “Ouguri” breed grow quickly and proliferate. They bear fruit early, take relatively fewer days to ripen and can be harvested early. The early-growing Ouguri has medium-sized fruit, and the fruit size does not vary. The Ouguri is an easy-to-produce high-yielding breed that produces two fruits on one vine. The external coating is dark—dark green with streaks—which contrasts sharply with the yellow inside. It is good as tempura or chips because of its sweet taste, and the texture is not so powdery as to lose shape easily.
